The aim of Banglele Indonesia is to build cooperation between the nucleus and plasma, namely by helping farmers to develop the upstream and downstream sectors of profitable vannamei shrimp farming in a sustainable manner. The basic principle is economies of scale. Currently, by cooperating with vannamei shrimp farmers, Banglele Indonesia has penetrated the potential of the vannamei shrimp farming business in freshwater areas by utilizing biofloc technology (BASF sytem).

There are several advantages to developing vannamei shrimp in freshwater by using a biofloc system, as well as by using a round tarpaulin tanks as a medium for cultivation, as follows:

  • Can be developed at the household scale (household scale) and can be adjusted to the capital budget that we have. So, this system is so friendly with low and middle class income.
  • Harvesting can be done and adjusted to market demand. It's mean before we doing vannamei shrimp farming must be creating market. With round tarpaulin tanks make easy to get market that adjusted by production. In same case at conventional vannamei shrimp farming as usual harvest in one time with large quantity.
  • Can guarantee freshness, health, and quality of shrimp easily.
  • Can reduce the risk of disease due to each other round tarpaulin tanks is separate by space.
  • No one has done vannamei shrimp cultivation in freshwater using this pattern (specifically in Riau Province), even in Indonesia it has never been done (as I know it) or rarely (if ever).

On the other hand, this technology is very suitable to be developed in areas or countries that do not have a coastline (land lock), such as; Nepal, Laos, Afghanistan, Bolivia, and some countries and in Central Asia and on the African continent. This technology can also be applied to marginal land or narrow land. So it does not require a large area of land to start vannamei shrimp rearing cultivation using freshwater.

We usually get vannamei shrimp in a frozen state and after being stored for a few days, weeks, or months ago. Vannamei shrimp with the BASF system can provide vaname shrimp fresh or alive, and also without any preservatives. This can increase the selling value or competitiveness of vannamei shrimp produced by the BASF system in the market, both local and export markets.

The BASF system is also very environmentally friendly because this system only uses very few water changes, even water that has been disposed of will be stored in a water bunker which will then be recycled again. This recycled water will be reused for the cultivation process, so that the use of less water (saving) will increase the efficiency of cultivation. The recycled water can also be used to supply nutrients to hydroponic plants around the cultivation site.

This BASF system can further reduce the rate of mangrove forest encroachment that often occurs in coastal areas. Massive degradation of mangrove forests will damage environmental ecosystems in coastal areas, and will have a negative impact on humans and the surrounding biota. Mangrove forests can prevent coastal abrasion and can also reduce the negative impact of tsunami waves. Therefore, this BASF system will greatly support the mangrove forest conservation program and as a form of support for the sustainable development of the fisheries and marine sector.

The BASF system is believed to be a system that has a bright and sustainable future. Moreover, this system is expected to be able to invite the younger generation to be able to go directly and pursue the world of fisheries and marine affairs. This is because the limited interest of the younger generation in the fisheries and marine sector will become a serious threat if this sector is late in transforming the system and its cultivation method. Therefore, with the development of digital technology in the world of fisheries and marine which is increasingly advanced as it is today, it is expected to be able to increase the production of healthy food sourced from white protein and can educate the lives of the world's people.
