Another reason the Pangasius business is a potential business is that the government has issued a policy regarding limiting fish import quotas. Hence, increasing domestic fish production becomes the focus of local market needs. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in 2017 it decreased by 52.22% compared to 2016, which reached 11,137 tons. The export volume of Pangasius in 2017 was only 5,321 tons. This is not due to a lack of fish being produced, but rather a higher domestic demand, as stated by the Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) KKP Nilanto Perbowo: “In 2017 exports decreased due to an increase in demand in the domestic market".
As for starting the cultivation of Pangasius itself, it can be done in tarpaulin ponds, ground, or concrete. Within six months, Pangasius can grow to a length of 35-40 cm with a weight of 1 kg, as long as the maintenance is carried out regularly and measurably. In addition, the selling price of Pangasius is also relatively high, and the demand is no less competitive with other types of fish so the profit will be more significant.
Pangasius has many consumers because of its complex nutritional content. It has a lower fat content than other types of fish, with the factual fat content of DHA (4.74%), EPA (0.31%), and USFA unsaturated fat (50%). This means that Pangasius has a low cholesterol content (21-39 mg/100 g), which is good for consumption and suitable for those on a diet program. Besides the nutritional content, nutrients and vitamins are also quite complete. This Pangasius contains many benefits that are good for health, such as:
- Helps build muscle.
- Optimizing white blood cell function.
- Help increase platelets.
- Healthy bones.
- Helps optimize the baby's growth.
- Prevent coronary heart disease.
- Prevent cardiovascular disease that attacks the heart.
- Improve brain and nerve performance.
- Controls cholesterol.
- Helps prevent stroke.
- Controlling electrolyte levels in the body.
Although the price is relatively high, Pangasius fish is still the main side dish for Indonesian people, given its nutritional content and benefits that our bodies need. Thus, fans of Pangasius will continue to exist and increase over time.
